| 24 February 2010 | 38 views |
Dubai: Bollywood stars Deepika Padukone and Farhan Akhtar were on a roll on Wednesday as they jetted into Dubai for the world premiere of their latest film Karthik Calling Karthik. Clad in crisp white cotton shirts, their moods were a reflection of their breezy sartorial choices.
"I feel a mixture of nervousness, anticipation and excitement," said Akhtar. "Karthik Calling Karthik is a suspense thriller that has been dealt with in a sensible manner. I feel really happy and relieved that it is finally here. It's out of our hands now,".
His co-star Deepika Padukone, meanwhile, took her time to talk business. She plays the love interest of Akhtar in the film.

I take advice from SRK: Farhan

That's because he switches off his phone at night. 36-year-old Farhan Akhtar also admits to being unsociable when working and not liking romantic films unless they come laced with drama. All this and more about the man who redefines cool
There are all these rumours linking you to your Karthik calling Karthik co-star Deepika Padukone which the two of you protest at every opportunity. Are you not overdoing it? Honestly speaking, I can only speak for myself. Initially I didn’t protest, I thought it would blow over naturally. But then it began to get awkward and in very bad taste and that is when I started protesting.

"I've never heard of any film before where a person gets phone calls from himself" - Farhan Akhtar
|

It was 11.30am. London's Somerset House was burning. I mean, summer time in London is like sitting on a red hot coal. I was drinking my favourite beer along with fellow journalists who were there to attend a press conference of SRK for his film Chak De India which had its premiere at the same venue later in the evening. The lady sitting in front of me passed a comment, "You sound so much like Farhan Akhtar. Talking to you is like talking to him." It was Nasreen Munni Kabir (author, documentary film maker and producer on British television) who briefed me about Farhan for the first time. Then the rest followed. Adah Sharma, Minissha Lamba, Rahul Dev, Amrita Rao, etc. Farhan's latest release, Karthik Calling Karthik is spooky in a way. Why? Because he receives a phone call from himself. Now read this - I was supposed to call Farhan for an interview last week. The rest I'm sure you'd have got it, right? UK's Harrow Observer columnist and Bollywood Hungama's London correspondent Devansh Patel picks up his phone and dials a number only to find himself on the other line....or was it truly him?

Farhan Calling Farhan!
|
| 19 February 2010 | 36 views |
So what's your take on Karthik Calling Karthik? It's the story of a guy called Karthik, an introvert, low on confidence and self belief. Then he gets one mysterious phone call from a guy who's also called Karthik, who says, 'I'll change your life'. And it does. The one thing he most wants is this girl, Shonali. They get together and eventually find out who this other Karthik is.
There are dark overtones to the movie... It's got elements of mystery for sure. Mystery of course lends itself to being relatively dark. Because you're building suspense, keeping people on the edge. There's also the possibility of this new Karthik intending to do something evil. It has portions that are creepy. And though it's a very on-the-edge-of-the-seat kind of thriller it's not morbid but entertaining. It does get into a slightly serious zone in the second half. But mainly it's about this boy and girl.

Making Deepika Padukone sexy in front of the camera may not seem like a big challenge, seeing how beautiful the model-turned-actress is. But some of the credit does go to ace fashion designers, who style their beautiful outfits.
Designer Niharika Khan designed Deepika's outfits in Karthik Calling Karthik. She also designed her co-star Farhan Akhtar's outfits, giving him two looks in the film -- a stylish one, and a nerdy look.
